A compassionate, integrative approach to counselling and wellbeing
Life can be complex. At times, we may find ourselves overwhelmed by emotions, caught in familiar patterns, struggling with relationships, or feeling disconnected from the person we want to be.
I’m Amanda Healy, a counsellor and hypnotherapist with over 15 years of experience supporting individuals and families through emotional, psychological and behavioural challenges.
My approach to counselling is grounded in the belief that every person deserves to feel heard, respected and understood, without judgement or pressure to change before they are ready.
I provide a supportive, confidential therapeutic environment where we can explore your experiences, understand the factors contributing to your difficulties, and work collaboratively towards meaningful and sustainable change.
My approach to counselling
I take an integrative, person-centred approach, recognising that no two people experience life’s challenges in quite the same way.
Our thoughts, emotions, relationships, past experiences, physical wellbeing and environment all influence how we respond to the world around us.
Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I work with clients to develop a deeper understanding of their emotional responses, underlying beliefs, coping strategies and behavioural patterns.
My counselling approach draws on principles and strategies from:
- Person-centred counselling: Creating a respectful, empathetic and non-judgemental space in which clients can explore their experiences and identify their own goals.
- Trauma-informed practice: Recognising the potential impact of adverse experiences and prioritising emotional safety, choice, collaboration and personal autonomy.
- Cognitive and behavioural approaches: Exploring the relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviours, while developing practical strategies for managing distress and creating change.
- Acceptance and mindfulness-based approaches: Supporting emotional awareness, psychological flexibility and the ability to respond to difficult thoughts and feelings with greater understanding.
- Solution-focused strategies: Identifying personal strengths, existing resources and achievable steps towards a more satisfying future.
- Hypnotherapy and NLP: Where appropriate and agreed upon, incorporating complementary therapeutic techniques to support relaxation, self-awareness and behavioural change.
The approaches we use are guided by your individual circumstances, preferences and therapeutic goals.
Understanding the person behind the problem
One of the most important aspects of counselling is looking beyond the immediate difficulty to understand the person experiencing it.
Sometimes the patterns that cause distress today began as ways of coping with earlier experiences. Other times, changes in relationships, health, family circumstances or life direction can challenge our sense of identity and emotional stability.
Together, we may explore how these experiences have influenced your beliefs, emotional responses, relationships and ways of coping.
My role is not to tell you how to live your life, but to support you in developing insight, recognising your strengths and making choices that feel right for you.
Areas of counselling support
I work with adults, young people and families experiencing a range of challenges, including:
- Anxiety, stress and emotional overwhelm
- Low self-esteem, confidence and self-worth
- Relationship difficulties and interpersonal patterns
- Grief, loss and significant life transitions
- Emotional regulation and coping strategies
- Childhood and adolescent emotional wellbeing
- Behavioural challenges and unwanted habits
- Fears, phobias and avoidance behaviours
- Stress-related difficulties and the emotional impact of physical health conditions
- Personal growth, identity and finding direction
Where a client’s needs fall outside my professional scope, I believe in working collaboratively with appropriate healthcare professionals and referral services.
The connection between mental and physical wellbeing
My interest in the relationship between emotional and physical health has shaped the development of Whole Mind Health.
Alongside my counselling and hypnotherapy background, I have undertaken professional training in nutrition and continue to develop my knowledge of nutritional science and genetics.
I recognise that sleep, nutrition, lifestyle, physical health and stress can all influence our emotional wellbeing.
When relevant, these factors may form part of a broader conversation about your wellbeing, alongside counselling and appropriate medical care.
This whole-person perspective allows me to consider the wider context of your life while keeping your emotional needs and therapeutic goals central to our work.
What you can expect when working with me
I understand that reaching out for counselling can feel daunting, particularly when you’re unsure where to begin or how to put your experiences into words.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before your first appointment.
My counselling style is warm, approachable and collaborative. I value genuine connection, curiosity and honesty, and I believe that even difficult conversations can include moments of humour, hope and discovery.
We work at a pace that feels appropriate for you, with an emphasis on emotional safety, practical support and building confidence in your own ability to navigate life’s challenges.
Above all, I want you to feel that counselling is a space where you can be yourself.
Welcome to Whole Mind Health
Whole Mind Health reflects my commitment to supporting emotional, psychological and physical wellbeing through a thoughtful, individualised approach.
Whether you’re seeking support through a difficult period, wanting to understand recurring patterns, or hoping to create meaningful changes in your life, counselling can provide a space to reflect, reconnect and move forward with greater clarity.
You don’t have to navigate everything on your own.
If you’re considering counselling, I welcome you to get in touch and explore whether my approach is the right fit for you.

What People Say
Hello Amanda,
A Later
Hoping you are well!
I seem to be finally sleeping much better and not nearly as itchy, so this is a good thing!
Highly recommended. Completed the positive birth program with Amanda recently and it really helped me understand all the tools I could use for an easy comfortable birth. I went into labour feeling well equipped with knowledge and understanding of what my body was about to go through and had no fear! This all lead to the quick, healthy, no complications birth of my son just last week.
You are very pure of heart and mind. Lol, I feel safe in your hands 🙂 thank you for putting me in the right direction.

Thanks again for giving so much.
Most professional hypnotherapist and coach I have ever met… and I have felt unbelievably safe and guided on the right way. Protected and guided in the same time – hard to put it in words, other than TRUST.
Fear of Heights
I have overcome my crazy fear of heights due to a Amanda and Batemans Bay Hypnotherapy. I can now enjoy views, bridges, mountains, ladders, escalators and stairs without everyone else thinking that I was a crazy woman. It is quite unbelievable that this works. Swiss Alps here I come!!! Thanks so much Amanda.
OMG read the story to little B last night and she LOVED it and said you should put it in a book!
S Vidler
You write beautifully and the story worked a treat. B talked about it all the way to school this morning and how it made her feel safe and relaxed. I asked her “when you are feeling stressed, do you think you can remember the Beach of carefree and how it makes you feel?” and she said “oh yes, I’m thinking of it right now! It’s a beach in Fiji and I’m there with you and daddy”
